Chrysler recently increased its involvement in the United States' economy through the creation of a 425,000-square-foot paint facility neighboring its current Sterling Heights, MI Assembly Plant. The new paint plant is approximately 85% complete and ends the 20 year dry spell of plant creation showing that Chrysler is a company with major plans for growth in the coming future.

Just a few years back, many American automakers faced a drastic decline in automotive sales due to an economic recession. Interestingly enough, there were plans to close the Sterling plant in 2010. Today however, the plant is operating at full production and has received an $850 million investment in its infrastructure including the new paint plant. Chrysler officials have mentioned that the new facility is "spotless," and that there is no reason to believe things would be any different after operations begin.

The adjacent assembly plant currently manufactures the Dodge Avenger and Chrysler 200. When asked which vehicles were scheduled to run through the new paint operation, Chrysler officials were quick to say that the roster was not public information at the present moment.

450 new jobs will be offered to operate the new paint plant and its 112 robots. Vehicles will undergo three phases of paint work including a base coat, a micro coat and a clear coat.
